Podcast Episode 381: The Invisible Load Doesn’t Take a Summer Break – Here’s How to Lighten It

Why Does Summer Break Feel Like a Full-Time Job You Didn’t Apply For?

Let’s be honest—when school ends, something shifts. The calendar clears for the kids, but your brain? It goes into overdrive. Suddenly, you’re the snack wizard, event planner, lifeguard, therapist, chauffeur, and screen-time negotiator all rolled into one. And somewhere in there, you were also supposed to remember your own name, eat a vegetable, and maybe enjoy summer? 😂

Here’s the kicker: the invisible load doesn’t take a summer break. If anything, it multiplies. There’s no school structure to lean on, no reliable routine to fall into, and somehow, the mental to-do list never stops growing. The real problem? Most of it is the kind of stuff you can’t plan for—the things that hit out of nowhere and completely derail your day. A surprise water heater replacement. A forgotten camp form. A kid melting down over the “wrong” sandwich.

That’s why learning how to lighten the invisible load for moms is absolutely essential—especially in summer. It doesn’t require a full-on life overhaul. Just a few small shifts that give you space to breathe again. Like letting your kids be bored without guilt. Saying no to solving everyone’s problems. Picking just one special thing a week instead of trying to make every day “magical.” And maybe most importantly—naming all the mental chaos out loud, so it doesn’t swallow you whole.

The truth is, moms carry a lot. But you don’t have to carry it all. Not this summer. Not anymore.

If you’re craving more headspace, less resentment, and a whole lot more sanity, now’s the time to figure out how to lighten the invisible load for moms—because summer should include joy for you, too.
