How I Tripled My Blog Pageviews

How I Made Money Through My Blog

First, let’s talk pageviews!  I have HUGE news:

In January, I had 30,000 page views.  This month, I had 85,000 page views!!

When I saw that number, I fell on the floor.

Literally, FELL ON THE FLOOR!

My income went up this month as well:

Income

Sponsored Posts: $1665

Refund for Leadpages: $297

Affiliate (Stitch Fix): $100

Ad networks (Blog Her): 145.18

Other: $40

Total Income: $2,517

Expenses

Internet services (web hosting, Opt-in Monster, Active Campaign, Photoshop, Boardbooster): $261.92

Supplies for posts: $99.47

Meals while traveling: $17.87

Travel (Hotel, parking for Build Your Blog Conference): $525.63

Tax professional (yes!  I used one this year!): $40

Other: $66.68

Total Expenses: $1011.57

Profit: $1505

Last year at this time, I was losing money. This is my second month in a row with a sizable profit!

Growing a blog definitely takes time.

You might notice that a sizable chunk of my income comes from sponsored posts. I’m working on diversifying and including my own products as well as trying to sell more affiliate products.

At the Build Your Blog Conference that I attended in February, I met two new, awesome, fantastic companies that I joined as an affiliate: Jane and Cents of Style.  I’ve begun showcasing their products on my Facebook page and will be writing posts about each shop very soon.

However, because of my experience, I have become very good at securing sponsored posts.  I would love to share my knowledge with you.  If you struggle getting hired for sponsored posts…

After solidly working this business for the past two years, I am finally seeing results.  I want to help you have the same success.

The increase in my page views is a direct result of changes I made in the past few months.  I discussed a few of those changes in last month’s report.

Today, I divulge the other change that I made – one that is super controversial in the blogging community.

  1. Wow you’re doing amazingly well! I’m really trying to grow too and I’ve stated paginating long posts, but most of mine aren’t that long so it doesn’t make as much sense. That’s a great sponsored post total. That’s definitely what I am working toward.

    1. Thanks Julie! Something I didn’t mention is that I don’t do any more sponsored posts than I did at the beginning of blogging. But I have been charging and getting paid more for them.

  2. JoAnn,

How exciting. You do a good job with the whole “Next” page thing by leaving a sort of cliffhanger. You are actually using the Zeigarnik Effect and it works well in marketing and with your blog post!

I’m a freelance writer and own several blogs. I just started a new blog and am trying to find ways to increase my traffic and engagement. Thanks for these tips!

I definitely have to get my newsletter up and running soon!

    1. Hi, Ella! Thanks for naming it for me 🙂 Good luck in your own blogs! It’s daunting when you are starting out on a new project!
